Specialty “Balkan studies” is a complex university specialty with master degree educational program. It's aim is preparing specialists in Balkan languages and cultures. The curriculum includes fundamental philological disciplines (both linguistic and literature), as well as historical and cultural. Students gather knowledge about the spiritual and material culture of the peoples on the Balkan peninsula from the ancient times until nowadays.

The pragmatically updated curriculum of the course offers priority acquisition of two Balkan languages. Greek is the first language to be studied. From the beginning of the second year, the study of a second Balkan language begins, and students have the right to choose between Serbian or Turkish. The required number of eligible and optional disciplines with multifaceted issues is present in the curriculum. Fundamental methodical and pedagogical disciplines are studied, thus widening the profile competence of the students.

Future graduates have very good perspectives for professional realization as teachers of Greek language and literature, coordinators in Balkan cultural and educational institutions, scientific researchers in different science institutes, interpreters, correspondents, literature collaboratives, editors, journalists in the mass media and others.
