The specialty “Ethnology” is a university specialty. It has successfully passed accreditation procedures, receiving maximum evaluation score in the field of Sociology, anthropology & cultural studies.

The study disciplines are based on the classical thesis of humanitarian studying and the human societies as the core of ethnology. Nowadays tendencies of ethnological knowledge are included, along with exploration and explanation of the cultural interaction, as well as the dynamics in the relations between individuals, society and the environment. The curriculum also includes other scientific disciplines, such as philosophy, philology, sociology, ethnography, folklore studies and psychology. The study program offers integrated forms of education, which includes theoretical disciplines along with methodology for its practical appliance. It responds to the European standards for the higher education and gives the students opportunities for participation in students exchange programs with other European universities.

The graduates also receive (after graduating the referring module) qualification for “experts in culture, religion and work with ethnic groups” or (by graduating module in pedagogies) qualification for teachers in sociology and psychology. Graduates which received bachelor degree could continue their education in master programs - two semesters for specialists and four for non-specialists.

Ethnologists could find their professional realization in the fields of education and culture (municipality administration, museums, community centers, mass media), in state, private and non-state organizations, in the field of scientific research and applicable projects.
