The education in the specialty “History” includes three modules, consistent with the state criteria for gaining the educational degree “bachelor”: “Bulgarian history”, “Balkan history” and “Overall (World) History”. The common historical and the specific historical disciplines – Bulgarian history, old history, Thracology, archeology, common medieval history, Byzantine history, new and contemporary history, history of Russia, historiography, archival studies and museology are among the fundamental by forming the future specialist in history. The curriculum includes eligible disciplines which give the student opportunities to widen their knowledge in historical field they are interested in. Through the lecture courses in basic methodical and pedagogical disciplines, the future graduates gain pedagogical certification. The education finishes by passing a state exam or defending master thesis.
The fundamental humanitarian knowledge of the graduates gives them opportunities for finding their professional realization as teachers in history in the high-schooling system, managers in national, regional and local museums with different profiling or specialist in archive institutions. The gained knowledge in specific spheres as well as the communicational skills gives them stable foundation for successful career in the mass media, editing and publishing agencies, higher schools and institutes of the BSA, in social and political organizations and the state administration.
The graduates with educational degree “bachelor” could continue their education for the higher educational degree “master”. The graduates with the educational degree master have even wider opportunities for professional realization – the law allows them to apply for Ph. D. programs.
