SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH DEPARTMENT

The department for scientific and applied activities (SAA) within the Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski” is an autonomous department in charge of the scientific and research activities of the university.

The SAA department implements the connections and realization of the scientific achievements and resources of the University with the economic practices, supports and administrates the contractual national and international scientific programs.

The SAA department works with economic account, possesses autonomous bank accounts, provides separate autonomous consignment for all contractual researches and programs, independence and self-dependence by the consumption of the resources and also observes for the full legality according to the Bulgarian law and the requirements of the different contracts and programs.

The department is directly subordinate to the vice-rector responsible for the science activities and the international collaboration.

Operatively the Department's activities are managed by a Director.
The research activities include different areas from the natural and social sciences. Particularly active are the initiatives in the following spheres:

* Informatics and informational technologies.
* Microbiology and biotechnology.
*Research over the optimization of the usage of natural resources.
* Environmental preservation.
* Optoelectronic and laser technologies.
* Synthesis of new organic and inorganic materials.
* Radioactive analysis of soil, water and air.
* Research over the biodiversity in Bulgaria for preservation of the natural genetics fund and use of proper species for biological control
* Problems of the higher-education
* Researches over language, literature and culture in the region, country, Slavonic and west-European countries
* Researches over personality
* Social, religious and ethnic identity

At the SAA department over 120 contracts are developed annually, financially secured by the following sources:

1. International programs.
2. Contracts with the national fund “Scientific research”.
3. Fund “Scientific research” at the Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”.
4. Economic contracts
