Branch "L.Karavelov" is an educational structural unit with a sustainable and dynamic development in the composition of Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv - largest public university in southern Bulgaria. The branch was reorganized by Decree № 90 of the Council of Ministers on 23.04.1996. It is the successor of semi Pedagogical Institute "L.Karavelov" - Kardzhali, founded in 1961.

Mission Branch - Kardzhali is to raise the educational, scientific and spiritual potential of the population in Eastern Rhodopes by highly qualified specialists with higher education in specific professional fields. The efforts of the faculty are focused on strengthening the Branch as authoritative and recognizable educational institution by organizing specialized and quality education, innovative research in various scientific fields, competitive participation in the labor market.

In Branch "L.Karavelov" prepare for regular training over 800 students in seven undergraduate programs of 5 professional fields: Pedagogy, Pedagogy of ..., Administration & management, Tourism and Biological sciences. Trained by highly qualified local teachers, as well as Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv and other universities. The total number of teaching staff terms of employment is 31 full-time teachers, of which 8 associate professors, 7 assistant professors doctors, 15 assistant professors and one assistant.

The branch is institutionally accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation within Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv. All specialties have a program accreditation in professional directions.
